What is it?
Discworld MUD is a multi-user game based on the fantasy Discworld books as written by Terry Pratchett. The Discworld MUD is a game that has been run by fans online since 1992 and continuously evolves. As part of your adventure you will meet many of the characters from those books. Pratchett's books are critically acclaimed, best-sellling, humorous fantasy that often take a satirical view of life and the game retains the comical, fun feel of the books.
Playing the Game
First of all, the Discworld MUD (Multi User Dungeon/Domain) is a text-based game. This means that you will have to read and write a lot. The "multi" of Multi User Dungeon refers to the fact that there are lots of people all on at the same time. These are real people with real emotions, like yourself, so treat them accordingly.
You'll start your adventure in Ankh-Morpork in the "Mended Drum" Pub. As a newbie you start life as an adventurer, but as you explore this vast world, take parts in fights (usually with rats and cockroaches to begin) and begin to complete quests and adventures you'll earn player XP points that will allow you to advance your skills. When you're ready you will be able to pick a specialism for your character by joining a Guild. There are several Guilds that you can currently join and these are:
Assassins Priests Thieves Warriors Witches Wizards and Fools
Guilds on Discworld MUD are more like professions or occupations than clubs. The Guild is what shapes your character. Unique commands are taught at your guild and choosing a guild allows you to advance more cheaply at the lower levels. Although most people join guilds, it is not required that you join one. Before you join a guild (or if you don't join one), you are known as an Adventurer.
