Your Voice, Your Black History Month

#ProudToBe

Voice and representation matters. Here at CUSU we want to amplify Black voices and encourage the sharing of stories and experiences across campus. This year, we are looking for Black students to write a guest blog for Black History Month 2021 around the theme of #ProudToBe. We know our students are really busy, and so we are making this a paid opportunity for your contribution. If submitted and published, you will receive a £30 voucher of your choice.

Thinking of contributing but aren’t sure what to write about?

This isn’t an academic essay. Our goal is to share your experiences and stories. This is your time and your space to share your truth. If you want to contribute in a form that better represents your experience let us know and we will work to make that happen. Want to submit a poem, short story or piece of art, or video? We encourage it!

What does Proud To Be mean?

“#ProudToBe is the theme for Black History Month 2021. Catherine Ross, Editor at Black History Month UK, explained why they are launching the campaign:

“It’s been a challenging time for many Black and Brown people, with so much in the media about racism, inequality and injustice. We wanted the theme of Black History Month 2021 to focus on celebrating being Black or Brown, and to inspire and share the pride people have in their heritage and culture – in their own way, in their own words. By asking people to share what they are Proud To Be we can share both individual stories and the vast richness of diversity that Black and Brown people bring to the UK."
